What are arrival and dismissal times?
See BCS's HISD website for the latest information.
How do I drop off and pick up my children?
See BCS's HISD website for the latest information.
Children are dropped off and picked up using the school carpool lanes. Staff are on hand to assist your child as they exit your vehicle and to help them locate their classrooms. Information will be shared on ParentSquare and this web site about carpool lane location/s, traffic flow, and options for walking your child to school. Expect wait times of up to one hour or more, at both dropoff and pickup for the first week of school. BCS staff work hard to minimize wait times, but it is a steep learning curve for families at the start of the year.
How will I find my student at dismissal time?
At Meet the Teacher night, parents will receive a dashboard card to display at carpool dismissal for your student. Teachers and staff will be on duty in the parking lot to communicate via walkie talkie with staff inside the building to send your student outside when they read your dashboard card. Watch ParentSquare and emails from Briarmeadow PTO in the days leading up to school for campus traffic maps and more information to assist in this process.
What is the school dress code?
The dress code is available on BCS's HISD website. Children should wear closed-toed shoes due to recess and physical activity. Uniforms are not required.
Do parents/guardians buy classroom supplies?
Parents provide the school with supplies through a contribution to the PTO's Curriculum Fund in August and September. More information about the Curriculum Fund will come in the first weeks of school. Teachers are able to buy classroom supplies that suits their needs, and the PTO reimburses them up to a fixed amount.
If additional support is requested by the school from parents, that need will be communicated on ParentSquare and this website. Usually, middle school students receive a short shopping list of personal supplies such as an academic planner, wired ear buds, etc. For all grade levels, families should provide a backpack and reusable water bottle for their student with the student's name on them and a lunchbox with the student's name on it for those who bring a packed lunch.
What are the PTO's primary fundraisers?
There are several fundraisers carried out during the year:
The Curriculum Fund - Provides funding for annual and recurring International Baccalaureate (IB) fees, IB training for staff, IB technology, school supplies, and field trips. More information will be provided about this fundraiser closer to the start of the school year.
Spirit Wear Sales - This year we are partnering with BennyBoySpirit.com for Bronco apparel sales.
The Fall Fundraiser - This year we are selling popcorn online and there is an option to buy out.
The Fall Festival - One of our largest Fundraisers and the biggest community event.
The Spring Fundraiser - For 2025-26, the Briarmeadow PTO is launching a new spring fundraiser called Raise Craze! Stay tuned for details.
Scholastic Book Fair - Encourages a love of reading in our students while earning rewards for our school.
How will I receive communication from the school?
Beginning in the 2025-26 academic year, HISD is adopting the ParentSquare app for district-wide, school-wide, and classroom-specific communication. The PTO will use ParentSquare and this website. Be sure your Membership Toolkit account has the correct email address on file to receive emails from the PTO.
Where can I find a calendar of upcoming school events?
Subscribe to the joint PTO and school Google calendar by clicking subscribe here. Both are updated regularly by PTO volunteers. The HISD academic calendar is here.
How do I volunteer my time with the school?
To volunteer, chaperone a field trip, or help at an event, you must register every year with VIPS (Volunteer in Public Schools). This must be done at the start of every school year. Volunteer opportunities for school-wide events will be communicated by ParentSquare and this website. You can also talk with your child’s teacher about volunteer opportunities in the classroom
How do I communicate with my student’s classroom teacher? Will I meet the classroom teacher before the start of school?
The ParentSquare app will be the teacher’s tool for communicating with the entire class about what takes place each week. Families will learn their student’s teacher’s name at Meet the Teacher event, when you can also visit the classroom.
Where can I find my student’s daily schedule?
Classroom teachers provide daily schedules.
When will I receive the back-to-school parent packet?
During the 2024-25 school year, the packet requesting student information was completed digitally with online forms. We anticipate the same format for 2025-26. Watch ParentSquare and your email for guidance in the first few weeks after school begins.
What is the IB program and where can I find more info?
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) - International Baccalaureate® is a student-centered approach to education that develops young students as active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. This program aligns with BCS’s call to be a constructivist school embedded in inquiry. For more information about IB at BCS please use this link https://www.houstonisd.org/Page/135946.
